Following her second album Take Me to Your Leader – #1 in the Best-Seller Digital All Categories and #4 Best-Seller Electronic Music in Canada charts upon release according to SoundScan reports, Top 10 of the iTunes Canadian Chart in all-genres, and #3 in the PalmarèsADISQ top sales – Cubby V now releases her third album, Lustrum, written 5 years after her debut album, If This Is Life, It Might Get Strange From Now On.
The key track from the album, Forward Into Growth, hypnotizing and disturbing at times is a beat-driven piece of art. Cubby V said:
“I definitely went back to the roots of what inspired me from the beginning; Jean-Michel Jarre, Kraftwerk, and the underground German Krautrock era. I wanted the song to be dark musically but there are also strong contrasts in this song and this is why I wanted the title to be positive.
I was inspired by the story of a priest woman whose husband cheated on her, yet she remained convinced by God that she needed to stay with him and trust him. I found it wicked but she was so convinced and at peace that I couldn’t help but think; that’s the kind of strong woman I want to be, even in the middle of doubts.
There is a degree of forgiveness that you need to explore if you what to move ‘forward into growth’. This is the kind spirit I wanted to touch with this song.”
